Clinical Trials

BusinessEdge Solutions, a company for whom I worked as a freelance IA, provides consulting services to the pharmaceutical industry. To promote the company's expertise in clinical trials management, I created a "clickable" demo based on the firm's best practices for managing drug trials.

Shown here is a screen shot of the dashboard designed for the protocol manager. Key reports (conceivably based on data culled from disparate systems) are displayed to enable the manager to assess the state of the protocols for which he/she is responsible. Alerts and My Tasks components are incorporated to proactively inform the manager of important issues or actions to be taken. A group calendar enables team collaboration.

Alert Details

Clicking on an alert opens an Alert Detail dialog. The additional information that's displayed and available functionality depend on the type of alert.

In this example of an enrollment shortfall with one of the protocols, the user can click on each listed city and compare planned versus actual enrollment numbers.

Assign Tasks

Alert dialogs also allow the user to take action. Here the manager can choose from a list of site administration tasks to address the enrollment shortfall. Subsequent screens in the wizard allow the manager to assign these tasks to specific members on the protocol team.

When completed, the dialog triggers the system to update the dashboards of the selected team members, adding the new tasks to their My Tasks portlet.

Executive View

In addition to designing screens for the protocol manager, I created screens appropriate for a senior executive. Again, in addition to developing the IA/interaction design, I created the visual look and feel.

In this example, the senior exec is accessing reports across all protocols under his/her management. Note the different global navigation options compared to that for the protocol manager, reflecting the senior executive's differing responsibilities.
